Im replaying d2 having not played it in 10+ years and sometimes the game feels almost "dark souls-isk" but like 5+ years before dark souls even existed.ĭ3 is a lot smoother, you cant mess up your build (you can respec as much as you want and try out all your different skills). But it has some jank and frustrations that probably won't be in d4. I grew up with d2 (and personally still like it better then d3). (blizzard north, the developers who blizzard employed to make diablo 1 and diablo 2, left after diablo 2 expansion, and the few that did stay had their input basically ignored for the making of diablo 3) Blizzard for whatever reason has elected to go the world of warcraft feel direction of the diablo franchise despite the core of it not ever intending to be that. The game itself was more modern to begin with, so it had a smoother playing experience in general.īonus points, path of exile is the only other game to be even close to diablo as a whole, and its what players felt/expected diablo 3 should have been to some degree. It was a much faster paced game where loot was more frequent and more guaranteed, but less overall exciting. At its core, the game lacks much end game replayability, and is ultimately just a perfectionist/trading end game for gear.ĭiablo 3 was a completely different game, far more casual, far less thinking, but it did add nice end game variety and power creep with rifts and greater rifts. The D2R experience gave it a visual modernization, while adding some "now" standard QoL fixes to make game play more smooth. I played all the diablos, with lots of hours.ĭiablo 1 quite literally set the standard for the hack and slash RPG, it set the stage literally for all games that would follow it.ĭiablo 2 quite literally was unrivaled and defined the entire genre for RPG with communal play and loot on it is still one of the best selling games of all time for PC.
